Big Red Ford 03:34
She’s a dark haired pariah in a big red Ford Five miles out of Bangor on a cunning little road With a handbag and a half tank and mismatched shoes She’s running from something she just can’t lose Now Troy is bareheaded and a ruthless man No melody to his manner no one he wouldn’t hang She’s so supernatural, no angel or diplomat But she had enough of his abuse and had enough of that! Now she’s flying past Hardy Hill, killing Hwy 9 Blackjack on her tail trying to make some time Racing into overdrive on a reckless path and New York City’s coming up to so bright and oh so fast! Now Blackjack was a flatfish man, drunken and habitual A lackey invertebrate, stale and ineffectual Now she had no worries though the lunk didn’t like her much He was a pulpit short a preacher man, with no brain as such The only thing on this one-way road to keep her senses on Was the stoutly moon hanging over northern Orrington And the spritely speckled waves of that Penebscot run And the hard gleaming shaft of a stainless steel gun Now she’s busting out of Rockland out on hwy 1 Fuel and joe and cigarettes and Blackjack long gone Just a big red Ford, good old Lord and glove box full of cash And New York City’s coming up to so bright and oh so fast! Just a girl from Lucky Landing had her head on straight Til she met an unfit man by the name of Troy McRae. Was it that her love had died and he didn’t know Or Ricky Fleet in the backseat of her big red Ford? Now Ricky’s dead, shot in the head and that’s the plainest fact She too would be evidence without a different tack While Troy was out she waited for the ductile evening sun And dashed away with a stash of cash and shiny, steely gun. Now she’s sinking into Stamford against the newborn sun Got no home, just a big red Ford and the charge of a new found gun. She’s looking for a hideaway in the concrete, steel and glass And New York City’s coming up to so bright and oh so fast! New York City’s coming up to so bright and oh so fast! New York City’s coming up to so bright and oh!

Swillbilly heroes and counterfeits All those conjurers of your regrets Is this what you want, to settle for less? When they tell you dear, “Take the best you can get” Bright like stars in the big wide open Came like a promise on which you were hoping Is this what you want, what you’re longing for? When it comes knocking, comes to your door? So far away, I see the signs Sublimely mystic, a hundred million miles I would give it all, all that I own To have you deep inside my bones Come to me, come break my heart Have you the courage to do me this harm? Love me so cruel, leave me out of breath Love me forever, love me to death

A doctor once she told me, “Son, you haven’t Lived ‘til you broke some bones And I can see by the look of you, you have seen only the well-worn roads” Thought hard ‘bout what she said But I couldn’t argue the truth Made me think of all the chances I never took Made me think about a girl when I was young and full of shit Now I wonder where she is and who she’s with? And does she still burn for me as I burn for her I wonder on those sleepless nights? How I lost that girl Do you still think of me when the lights are low? Do you remember all those things we did so long ago? I can still see your face wanting me to ask But the fear of a thing so real keeps holding me back No matter what I say, I can’t set things right No matter what I do, not with all my might

Head a Shake 04:01
Blacktop, bigshot you know it just won’t quit Knuckledown, ten count like a ton of bricks Your heart can’t remember It’s heartly shape It’s a three card hustle now, give your head a shake High hopes, on the ropes just a stone’s throw away Had myself a bigheaded belly flop kind of a day It’s a tricky curve that I can’t break Missed the mark in the dark, give your head a shake God for heaven’s sake! Give your head a shake! A malady of flattery inside my head A misstep backflip won’t break a sweat Now I think about you Less and less each day But I still gotta give my head a shake But I still gotta give my head a shake But I still gotta give my head a shake Give your head a shake! God for heaven’s sake! Give your head a shake!

Cold Comfort 02:14
In this city that’s dear to me Where cash is king and money’s free I’m gonna kick that Friday Night, Damn straight between the eyes In the broad daylight Running on these worn out wheels How it rumbles, how it reels The only way for me to get my fill Big problems and little pills The only cure for all my ills In this sad, dull little number Come here to put me under Doughboy thieves on secret lanes Going fast the wrong way Going fast all the way Going fast the wrong way

Meteors, Comets and Failing light All come crashing by your side Too far to matter, too close to care Ever so gently, slowly pushing me away I wish that I could see your eyes And all those Ghosts you exorcise? I know with space and a little time All these feelings will slowly die Sitting here under the stars Waiting for them to fall Lying here wondering If you love me less or at all Of all the things I have no regret Things I won’t soon forget My only hope is more request That when you do think of me you think the best Sitting here under the stars Waiting for them to fall Lying here wondering If you love me less or at all Sitting here under the stars Waiting for them to fall Lying here wondering If you love me less or at all If you love me less or at all Waiting for the stars to fall

Born to Fall 03:21
When you feel that you’re moving you know with your luck What you thought was a groove baby was only a rut You can rhyme off the reasons for doing what you did, you Never did anything decent you only knew how to quit When the black banner flies over your head Think that you’re Born to fall Break the circle, snap the chain Just push through it all, Like hardships on a map they get in your way, Peaks, valleys and all those traps, each one that you lay Come across them time and again, and they lead you astray You always do the same thing expecting a change When the demons fly from your heart You’re sure you’re Born to fall Take the time to open your eyes Take heed of the call When all things sinister they come haunt your mind Of how things could’ve been if only you had more time But you pay them no heed ‘cause better days will come But if it don’t come from you, where the hell will it come When the all the answers evade you You know you’re Born to fall Take heart, have hope You’re not at the end of your rope

Lucky Mud 02:36
She came as a queen of venomous dreams Celestially floating at right angles to me Can't you see how I'm trembling I'm a tiresome jumble of a man On this river of indiscretion How the stone, the water does love Worn down to a slender ruin Lord knows i'm a lucky mud. Oh I cry, a sea blue grey A beam of light through the smoke and the haze A miracle in a crescent shape Takes me to that higher place With my walking stick I will fly Dash and nimble in the blue above Looking back one last time Lord knows I was a lucky mud
9.
Is it fiction or diplomacy Premonition or clairvoyancy? Is it too much ask, to hold your gaze so wireless? Oh, my soul, like a lover’s noose Waiting for to kick me loose As the blackened sea, swells and buries me Oh, so perfect and serpentine Like a starter on the starting line To gun down lovers as they kiss so wireless
10.
I ain’t no saint, I ain’t no sinner Just dumb luck, baby, no Great Lake swimmer I’m the jetsam in your sea, At the end of the century! You’re a star, Might be a ringer Rub me, baby, and watch me shimmer! I’m the post to your sign, At the end of astrology! You’re the girl, who took my heart and the good outta me I’m the rain on your parade, See me float, Ain’t no mistake I’m frozen on your ocean, such pretty symmetry! You’re the girl who took my heart and the good outta me! Sub-atomic, Alchemy, oh you’re all I’ll ever need. You’re the girl who took my heart and the good outta me! The good outta me! The good outta me! The good outta me!

Can't bring myself to believe, In all those scholars in atrophy And their so-called gods of lethargy, It’s much too simple for me to believe What will you see at the end of the street, at the end of the street Like a monkey with a stick you poke, Into that hole just to find the mote Chugging like a two-stroke, belching smoke Oh, How can you not get the goddamn joke What will you find, at the end of the line? End of the line In the ruin of a lonely street The answer you want ain’t what you need And what you want and what you seek It’ll tear you apart piece by piece Where will you go, at the end of the road? End of the road Where will you go, at the end of the road?

Daddy's coming home, son, Daddy's coming home Been away for oh so long, Daddy's coming home Been away so far away, been thinking 'bout you everyday Daddy's coming home, coming home Mama sits and cries boy, yeah, Mama sits and cries Cries her green, green eyes, yeah, Mama sits and cries Says that you're her only man, and i'm hoping you'll understand When Mama sit and cries, sits and cries the Deputy was bad, son, that Deputy was bad Had it out for your ol' Dad, that Deputy was bad Called your Daddy out to the street, and your Daddy had to shoot him thru the badge The Deputy was bad, now he's dead Say I'm gonna hang, son, they say I'm gonna hang Judge says I done wrong, and they say I'm gonna hang You know I love my only son, but I don't know why I brought the gun Say I'm gonna hang, then I'm coming home Say I'm gonna hang, then I'm coming home Say I'm gonna hang, then I'm coming home
